Combating the Viral Hepatitis

In line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai and Dubai Health Insurance Corporation under Dubai Health Authority has initiated the program last 2019.

This program aims to eradicate Hepatitis in the Emirates of Dubai related to:

  1. Hepatitis C
  2. Hepatitis B

 Eligibility Criteria:

  • Insured members holding a residence visa issued from the Emirate of Dubai with a validity of not less than one year.
  • The program will apply for existing and new residents of Dubai who have not been diagnosed with Hepatitis before entering the country.
  • Enrolment into the program will be based on a diagnosis confirmed by the Centre of Excellence (CoE).

Tips on how reduce your risk:

Hepatitis viruses are spread through contact with blood or bodily fluids of a person with the virus. The viruses are transmittable through casual contact, such as holding hands, sharing eating utensils or drinking glasses, breastfeeding, coughing, or sneezing.

There are many ways you can reduce your chances of getting hepatitis:

  1. Drink bottled water when traveling
  2. Don't share needles
  3. Practice safe sex
  4. Practice good personal hygiene

It is very important that you take these preventive measures if you participate in risky behavior. Take preventive steps, too, if you work in places like a nursing homes, dormitories, daycare centers, or restaurants where there you have extended contact with other people and a risk of coming into contact with the disease.
